Our History

The work of our group, and the community of early childhood care providers that we represent, was originally envisioned at the 2007 World Forum Foundation conference in Kuala Lumpur. During this important event, representatives from 17 early childhood development (ECD) groups across the world took the important step of shining a bright light on the devastating impact of HIV and AIDS on early childhood development and the youngest children who are infected and affected.

The action items and leadership messages produced by the Action Tank’s original participants were the drivers of the next steps of the World Forum’s early care and education community of practice. Meeting again at the 2009 World Forum in Belfast, Ireland, and joined by many new faces and contributors, we renewed our dedication with a commitment to develop a Knowledge Exchange website over the next 2 years. We formulated a plan for reaching out to a broad group of potential participants and advisors, we organized a leadership structure, and we mapped out an agenda and preliminary design for a virtual hub of knowledge exchange that would spark joint learning and resource sharing across the globe…all with a focus on young children and HIV and AIDS.

We are excited to have launched our initial website design, and anticipate a lively exchange among our global colleagues.
